Criterion Systems provides valuable support to the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) IT Systems Engineering and Integration Support Program for the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The DOL prepares the American workforce for new and better jobs, and ensures the adequacy of America’s workplaces. We seek candidates that provide high operational quality, collaborative work, knowledge of cloud services, and value to assist with data center consolidation and advance the DOL Mission. 
We are looking to hire a Systems Engineer to support our customer in Washington, DC.  Once hired, the person will provide the following support-


  • Comprehends the customer’s business problem and applies system engineering methods to find a solution.
  • Provides technical leadership for the development, maintenance, and support of the enterprise applications and platforms.
  • Applies analytical techniques when gathering requirements from users, designing technology solutions, and measuring system performance.
  • Performs research, evaluation and/or provides recommendation for new alternative solutions and technologies to enable and improve data integration across the enterprise.
  • Proposes technical solutions for information architecture development, metadata management, master data management, data profiling and quality management, and enterprise data integration.
  • Handles operational activities while solutions are in development/pilot as well as coordinates transition of solutions to Operations teams when released to production
  • Participates in creation and presentation of solution briefings to both internal and external stakeholders


  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer networking and information security.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the technical challenges and solutions associated with a business problem.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional agile environment.
  • Familiarity with user-centered design concepts and methods.
  • Designing and deploying services in AWS and/or Azure clouds
  • Creating and using DevSecOps pipelines
  • Experience with Virtual Desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions
  • Ability to package applications for remote deployment
  • Experience managing Windows systems (Windows 10, Windows Server 2019, etc.)
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell)
  • Knowledge of cloud services/tools to monitor plus report on costs and consumption
  • Preferred:  experience building or interfacing with RESTful or SOAP APIs
  • Preferred:  developing and using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM)
  • Peferred:  team lead/project management experience
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or other technical degree. An additional four years of relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum Experience: 5 years of technical experience; IT solutions management experience preferred with 1+ years of software development and 2+ years of systems architecture and design experience
