Criterion Systems is seeking to hire a Senior Security Engineer. The successful security engineer will become an integral part of the Cyber Security Project Engineering team focused on delivering innovative solutions which enhance the capabilities of the Security Operations Center to detect and identify threat activity and system intrusions.  This job will involve a range of software development activities including web applications, big data analytics, systems integration, and utility applications.  Development projects employ DevOps practices and Agile methodologies to ensure timely delivery of solution improvements aligned with customer requirements.  This role will be responsible, working closely with Engineering teams to identify, design, implement, and test automated processes for solution delivery. A strong IT background, as well as knowledge of both Windows and Linux administration services is very beneficial. 

  • Work closely with Project Engineering team and project stakeholders to deliver needed solutions in a timely manner. 
  • Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation which includes solution requirements, use cases, system dependencies, test plans, build and deployment processes, usage guides, build artifacts, and release notes. 
  • Collaboratively design and implement custom software solutions which satisfy project requirements. 


Minimum Qualifications: 


  • U.S. Citizenship is required. (no dual citizenship permitted)
  • Current DOE Q clearance or the ability to obtain one. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security or related technical discipline OR 4 years professional IT experience may be used in lieu of degree.
  • Five (5) years of working experience with a preference in Dev Ops/Security engineering
  • Experience working with Windows and Linux systems and infrastructure. 
  • Experience with DevOps platforms and tools (Jira, git, Jenkins, Ansible). 
  • A strong understanding of software development best practices and design patterns 
  • Modern programming skills in any language, including version control, test-driven development, and debugging. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with Java and/or Python 
  • Knowledge, experience, and scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Ruby, PERL, Bash, Node, etc.). 
  • Experience developing web applications. 
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of agile project management. 
  • Strong IT background, including networking fundamentals and systems. 
  • Comfortable learning independently and asking for help. 
  • Superb written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to communicate with people of varying levels of technical ability. 
  • Familiar with compliance frameworks, security best practices, and product security baselines. 
  • Experience designing and writing scripts for automation tools (ex: Chef, Puppet, Ansible, SaltStack, etc.) to perform system builds; as well as software installation and configuration. 
  • Experience using configuration management tools in a production environment (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, etc.). 
  • Proficient use of Ansible, Puppet, and Git 


Preferred Qualifications: 


  • Experience leading various phases of information technology and security projects (concept, investigation, deployment, operations, migration, decommission) - in particular projects which require coordination with developers, engineering domains, and service stakeholders. 
  • Experience with DevOps platforms and tools (Git, Ansible, Jenkins, and others).  
  • Strong background in secure development principals and methodologies of software security 
  • Experience with centralized logging and filtering (Splunk, syslog). 
  • Familiar with cloud computing platforms like Azure, AWS, and GCP. 
  • Experience working in a closed / highly secure / regulated environment. 
  • Experience with automation, scripting, and programming. 
  • Experience with automated build tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.). 
  • Understanding of Unit Testing and Integration Testing with production experience. 
  • Familiarity with DevOps culture, politics, and practices. 
  • Scrum developer, scrum master training. 
  • Experienced with containers, container orchestration, containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and LXC), and/or server-less technologies. 
  • Familiarity with usage and development of solutions for big data platforms such as Hadoop and Splunk. 
  • Knowledge and experience of statistical methodologies
  • Industry certifications for security engineering, cyber security, big data analytics
